Green Smith Farm

Terra Preta

Tha Amizon Forest. Natural or man made?

A recipe you might be looking for.

This is the culmination of many years of research to gain an understanding of how the super fertile, black soil of the Amazon, created by the Eldoradians, came into being. This recipe is the result of reverse engineering the compounds currently found in this soil.

Aim

  • Turn soil into a living, nutrient-rich system

  • Boost microbes, bacteria, and worms

  • Improve plant growth, health, and yield

Ingredients

  • 2.5 kg chopped organic kitchen waste (no caffeine items)

  • 2.5 kg sandy soil

  • 2.5 kg farm animal manure

  • 2.5 kg crushed charcoal (dust is best)

  • 300 ml yogurt

  • 300 ml fruit juice

  • 300 ml beer

  • 300 ml urine

  • Water (as needed)

  • 250 g earthworms

When most people think of Elderado, it's difficult for them to contemplate the scope of the supply chain that existed, to feed the millions of people that lived and worked there.

Terra Preta Soil

Preparation, Use and Benefits

Chop or blend the kitchen waste and crush the charcoal into small pieces. Mix all wet ingredients together and mix the dry ingredients separately, then combine both, mixing thoroughly. Add water until the mixture is moist but not soggy, seal it tightly in an airtight container or thick plastic bag, and let it ferment for two weeks in a cool, shaded place. After fermentation, mix it with garden soil at a ratio of 1:1 to 1:10, water well, add earthworms, and keep the soil moist during the first season. This improves soil fertility naturally and boosts microbial life and worm activity. Micro organisms like beneficial bacteria, fungi, microbes and worms need a moist environment to survive. This supports stronger plant growth and higher yields.
